Mark Danis is married and is the proud father of six children and grandfather of five grandchildren. He was born and raised Catholic and attended St. Michael’s college in Winooski, Vermont, where he received his undergraduate degree in English Literature. He later received a Masters Degree in Theology from Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Ct. Mark is a fully professed member of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites. He currently sits on the Council for the Community in Dayton OH, where he is Formation Lead for the Definitive Promise candidates. He has also provided a number of large group presentations and retreats for his Carmelite Community as well as local Dayton area parishes and prayer groups. Mark also leads a monthly prayer group focused on the St. Teresa of Avila, or Teresian Method of Prayer. Finally, Mark is the co-host of a weekly radio program entitledCarmelite Conversations—on Carmelite Spirituality which airs on the international radio network, Radio Maria. The program focuses on the challenges and blessings of the Contemplative life of Carmel lived out in the Secular world. The program covers topics such as the Carmelite Saints and their teachings, the Secular Carmelite’s role in modern society and the practice of Carmelite Contemplative Prayer.
Frances Harry, OCDS, lives in Dayton, OH with her husband, Doug, and two children, Rosamarie and Dominic. She is currently the Chief Executive Officer in her home. Frances earned a BA from the University of Illinois and an MA from Bowling Green State University. She has taught in the schools and has a great life-long love of learning. Additionally, she served in the United States Air Force for 7 years with the Air Force Band of the West at Lackland AFB, TX.
In 1984 she was introduced to the writings of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross signaling a major turning point in her life. In 1989 she was invited to a meeting of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites in Columbus, OH and immediately felt at home. She went through formation and became a member and has been a Carmelite ever since, having made her Definitive Promise and Vows. She has had the privilege of being a member of several Discalced Carmelite communities: Columbus, San Antonio, Cincinnati, Brighton (MA) and Dayton. Frances has served as Formation Facilitator, Councilor and President. She co-hosted a workshop on forming new communities for the Washington Province Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites Congress.
Since the inception of Carmelite Conversations—on Carmelite Spirituality, Frances has been a co-host with Mark Danis, OCDS on Radio Maria. This has been a very fruitful and engaging ministry that continues to this day.
